UCLA is an active member of the Association for Intercollegiate Athlectics for Women (AIAW), the national governing body for
women's intercollegiate sports in the United States. Over 800 colleges, university, community colleges, and junior colleges
are currently affiliated with AIAW.
Within AIAW, UCLA is a member of Region 8, which encompasses California, Nevada, and Hawaii. Over 80 institutions are active
in Region 8 in women's athletics.
UCLA is affiliated the Western Collegiate Athletic Association (WCAA) or Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU).
The AAWU for formed 1959 July 1, upon the dissolution of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC). Original members of the AAWU
were: Stanford University; University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); and the University of Washington. On 1969 the AAWU
adopted the name Pacific 8 Conference (PAC-8).
Record Series 489 contains materials relating to the Women's Athletics Reunion Program. Materials include images and newspaper
clippings dating from 1931 to 1991 as well as film and lecture notes dating from 1985 and 1991.
