Dr. Yolanda Broyles-González, currently a Professor in the Mexican American Studies & Research Center at the University of
Arizona, has also worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara in Chicano Studies and German Studies. A native of
the Arizona/Sonora desert, she was one of the first women of color to receive a doctorate degree from Stanford University.
As a professor, her research includes popular culture and the performance genres of the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. Her book
El Teatro Campesino: Theater in the Chicano Movement publised by University of Texas Press in 1994 was instrumental in the study of Chicana/o performance.
In 1996, González legally challenged the unequal payment of minority/women professors within the University of California
community. Additionally, she has worked in the realms of public education and journalism.
