A collection of photographs and audiovisual materials chiefly related to Mount Wilson Observatory, Los Angeles County, California, and 20th-century astronomical research.
Background
Mount Wilson Observatory was founded in 1904 by George Ellery Hale under the auspices of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. Built on the summit of Mount Wilson, above Pasadena in Los Angeles County, California, it was called the Mount Wilson Solar Observatory until 1919, when "Solar" was dropped from the name.
