Scope and Content of Collection
Writs of Executions (1952-1960) consists of one disbound volume and contains legal documents addressed “To the Sheriff, Marshall
of any Municipal Court or Constable of the County.” These documents illuminate financial disputes and reflect a court’s judgement,
whether Superior, Municipal, or Small Claims Court regarding the dispute. The documents provide the name(s) of the attorney(s)
for the Judgement Creditor and of the involved parties, an Execution Number, the date of judgement, and a breakdown of financial
responsibilities. These responsibilities include principal, attorney fees, interest, and other costs. Additional financial
information may include deductions for previous payments followed by a total “actually due on said judgement.” The document
is then dated by the court clerk.
The execution is accompanied by a Notice of Attachment or Levy Upon Real Property issued by the Sheriff or Marshall. This
notice mirrors much of the information found in the execution, including the judicial authority, defendant(s)’ name(s), and
a description of the real property upon which the levy has been imposed. Documents are arranged according to the date they
were recorded with the Office of the Recorder.
