Series I. Academic Activities 1974-1986

Scope and Contents

Series I consists of Richard L. Tieszen's academic career with bulk dates between 1975-1986. Materials relate to Tieszen's schoolwork while he earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Columbia University in 1986, his M.A. in Philosophy from the New School for Social Research in 1978, and his B.A. in Philosophy from Colorado State University in 1975.
The materials in this series consist of handwritten notes, printed articles, graded assignments, papers, essays, drafts, and other notes/thoughts on subjects such as logic, linguistics, philosophy, mathematics, and physics that Tieszen produced during his academic career.

Series II consists of materials relating to Richard L. Tieszen's teaching career. Tieszen held various positions teaching philosophy classes at San Jose State University from 1989 to 2014, and was also a visiting professor at: Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Paris, Archives Henri Poincaré/CNRS/Université Nancy 2, France, Institut d'histoire et de philosophie des sciences et des techniques (IHPST/CNRS), Paris, Universiteit Utrecht, The Netherlands, and Stanford University.
Materials in this series consist of lecture outlines, class materials/activities, assignments, paper prompts, notes and articles on various math, philosophy and logic topics relating to courses taught, correspondences with students and colleagues, seminar outlines, and academic sponsorship/scholarship programs Tieszen was involved with.

Scope and Contents

Series III consists of materials relating to Richard L. Tieszen's professional career in the academic and publishing world. He was involved in various groups, organizations, and circles relating to his philosophical, mathematical, and logical interests, and contributed editorial work, referee work, and wrote many articles as well as several books on these topics.
Materials included in this series are correspondences with colleagues/publishers, extensive notes and drafts on various philosophy topics, notes and other ephemera relating to various conferences and presentations attended by Tieszen, articles by and reviews of Tieszen's work, and several drafts of books/articles published and unpublished by Tieszen and colleagues of his.
