Background
- Scope and content:
-
The collection is a mixture of corporate archives and personal papers. The collection contains materials which document Grier's and McBride’s lives, especially their work with Anyda Marchant (a.k.a. Sarah Aldridge) and her life partner Muriel Crawford to establish Naiad Press. The Naiad authors include Marion Zimmer Bradley, May Sarton, Elsa Gidlow, Jeannette Foster, Jane Rule, Valerie Taylor and Sheila Ortiz Taylor. There is excellent coverage of the media frenzy which accompanied publication of "Lesbian Nuns: Breaking Silence," edited by Rosemary Curb and Nancy Manahan. Of particular interest is the correspondence with Canadian author Jane Rule, and with Joanne Passet, Grier's biographer.
