Papers reflecting the social life and customs of early residents of Los Angeles and Southern California. Range from 1748-1876, undated (bulk is 19th century). English and Spanish. Includes The Ladies Album, containing poetry, engravings, and locks of hair.
Charles J. Prudhomme (1854-1934) was the son of Frenchman Leon Victor Prudon and a Californio mother, Mercedes Tapia. He was an active member of the Historical Society of Southern California and collected historical artifacts and photographs. Prudhomme’s father took part in the Bear Flag Revolt of 1846.
