    Biography/Administrative History

    Charles "Chic" Eglee was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1951. After graduating from Yale University, he moved to Los Angeles and began his entertainment career working for Roger Corman. He joined the writing staff of St. Elsewhere in 1984 and subsequently worked on Moonlighting. He joined Steven Bochco Productions and was a writer and producer on Civil Wars, NYPD Blue, Total Security and was a co-creator of the series Murder One and Byrds of Paradise. Eglee and James Cameron co-created the TV series Dark Angel, released in 2000 and Eglee went on to produce and write for TV series The Shield, Dexter, Hemlock Grove, The Walking Dead and American Gods. He has five Emmy Award nominations, one Emmy win, and four WGA Award nominations.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The Eglee Collection contains over 200 teleplays for TV shows that Eglee worked on as a writer, producer, and/or showrunner. For many episodes, files include outlines, multiple drafts and production documents such as shooting schedules, cast and crew lists, and budgets. Titles along with number of episodes represented are Byrds of Paradise (13), Civil Wars (36), Dexter (1 episode), Hemlock Grove (2), L.A. Law (5), Moonlighting (39), Murder One (13), NYPD Blue (22), St. Elsewhere (45), and Total Security (13). There are also scripts for unsold pilots by Eglee including The Banzai Love Diaries, Esperanza, the Lamentation Effect, Rockenwagner, and screenplay drafts of a Universal feature film, Thieves, by Chris Brancato, and a reimaging of Scarface as a miniseries set in South Los Angeles. In addition to the paper material, included is a writers’ room whiteboard from the final, seventh season of The Shield, with the beats of the thirteen episodes written out.
