    Abstract: In 1916 Troop 1 was organized by W. George Spillman in Sacramento. By 1919, twenty-one troops existed in the Sacramento region. In 1920 a formal council was created to develop and promote scouting in Sacramento and the surrounding areas. The John O’Farrell Boy Scouts of America collection contains publications and membership cards from member of Troop 12, Sacramento 1929-1931.

    Biography / Administrative History

    In 1916 Troop 1 was organized by W. George Spillman in Sacramento. By 1919, twenty-one troops existed in the Sacramento region. In 1920 a formal council was created to develop and promote scouting in Sacramento and the surrounding areas.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The John O’Farrell Boy Scouts of America collection contains publications and membership cards from member of Troop 12, Sacramento 1929-1931. The collection is organized into four series: Series 1. Membership cards. Series 2. Boy Scout Diaries. Series 3. Handbooks. Series 4. Camp Audrain brochure. The Boy Scout diaries were published notebooks given to scout members that document required dress, behavior codes, how to fly a flag, Indian sign language, and other troop information.
