Scope and Contents
This collection consists of materials that document US Naval pharmacist Dwight Wesley Garber interest in American Samoa as
well as materials that document his time of service with the US Navy in American Samoa in the 1920s. The materials consist
of newspaper clippings, magazines, photographs, negatives, publications, research notes, diaries, journals, logbooks, manuscripts,
and other materials.
Conditions Governing Access
The collection is open for research except restricted materials which are closed until the date noted at the file level. Note
that material is stored off-site and must be requested at least 36 hours in advance of intended use. Audiovisual materials
are not available in original format, and must be reformatted to a digital use copy

Auxiliary Cruiser "Seeadler" on July 8 1917. The Manila was sunk.

Letter to both Garbers from a shipmate of Dwight Wesley Garber.
Lists of hospital corpsmen who served at Ta'u. Garber made the notation that he was personally acquainted with four of them

Written by someone identified as "John" by Dwight Wesley Garber. "John" was a prisoner in jail at Tutuila in October, 1924.

Mutinies and near-mutinies
Scope and Contents
Folder containing Garber's writings on a "Near mutiny on the U.S.S. Washington (U.S.S. Seattle) that took place while the
USS Washington was lying at Galapogos Islands. Also several pages of notes on a mutiny that took place aboard the surrendered
German ship Ostfriesland. Among the Americans aboard the ship were "Red" Cooper, John T. Dobbyn, Lyman A. Duckworth, Frank
Everret and a man named Hayes. Garber transcribed Duckworth's narrative on January 28, 1928 off Gonaives and he has the narrative
given to Garber by Chief Yeoman aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on January 31, 1928. There are also notes
on a semi-mutiny aboard the U.S.S. Georgia as told by Joe Baauer, Chief Printer, U.S.N. who was serving aboard the U.S.S.
Georgia at the time.
