Abstract: Neil Good was a resident of Hillcrest who was involved with the local LGBT community via his weekly columns for Update and his involvement in local politics. In 1987, Good ran for San Diego’s 8th District City Council seat but was defeated by only 385 votes by Bob Filner. His death less than two years later was a terrible loss for San Diego. Good was the first openly gay candidate for a public office in San Diego.
