Scope and Content of Collection

This collection contains the published works of gay writer, artist and filmmaker, Hunce Voelcker, who lived and worked in the Bay Area from the mid-1960s to his death. Voelker (1940-1992) was a participant the literary circle that included Robert Duncan, Jack Spicer and Paul Mariah. He was also active in the gay hippie scene and gay liberation movement. Works in the collection are: “Hart Crane Voyages” (Brownstone Press, 1967); “Joy Rock Statue Ship” (Cowstone Press, 1968); “Logan” (Cowstone Press, 1969); “Songs for the Revolution” (Cowstone Press, 1969); “Parade of Gumdrop,” with Rodney Price (Hoddypoll Press, 1971); “Sillycomb” (Panjandrum Press, 1973); “Within the Rose” (Panjandrum Press, 1976). Voeker’s papers also contain ephemera, correspondence, photographs, a videotape of him reading his works and lecturing on Hart Crane (1978-1988), and a video copy of some of his 8mm art films (1976-1977).
