Biographical/Historical note

CALTRANS is a California state agency responsible for bridge, highway and rail transportation planning, maintenance, and construction. The state agency is divided into districts each of which is responsible for various counties within the state of California. Caltrans District 5 is responsible for Santa Barbara County. In 1992 the state of California’s department of transportation executed a project that entailed redesigning the landscaping along the state highway in Santa Barbara.

Scope and Content note

The CALTRANS Santa Barbara crosstown freeway overpass and landscape design drawings span 3 linear feet and date from 1992. The collection is composed of 23 architectural drawings. Drawings include: elevation drawings of overpasses along the state highway as well as project plans for highway plating on the state highway in Santa Barbara from the Milpas Street separation to the Castillo Street undercrossing.
