    Scope and Content of Collection

The bulk of this collection contains black and white photographs of nude men, physique photographs, erotica and ephemera. The photographs and erotica are unsorted and appear to date back to at least the 1940s. Some formed part of a scrapbook presumed to be kept by Lindsley. There are also erotic drawings and Japanese silkscreens. Ephemera in the collection includes a program for an original night club review, “Ready or Not, It's Me!,” featuring the popular drag performer, Michelle (1967); “The Right Playmate,” by James Broughton and Suzanna Hart (1964); "Punished in Silk: A Story of Enforced Transvestism" (1964). Most notable are materials related to the Society for Individual Rights (SIR), including a Directional Report, mass mailings, a survey and ephemera (1965-1966). Accretions to this collection include a photo album, family photos, and photos from a political protest, all in black and white. Also included are two VHS tapes of the 1996 and 1997 San Francisco Pride Parades.
