Description
This collection contains correspondence from Flight Officer Roland W. Alderman, United States Army Air Force, to his brother Clarence and his mother during and shortly after the Second World War.
Background
Flight Officer Roland W. Alderman, United States Army Air Force (4/16/1916 - 7/10/1996) served during and after the Second World War. Born in Carroll County, Virginia, he was trained in Memphis, Tennessee and was eventually deployed to China with the 1339th Army Air Force Base Unit. He served at Chengkung Air Base in China. Roland often referred to himself as "Joe." F/O Alderman spent most of his life in Galaxy, VA where he passed away in 1996.
