Scope and Contents

This is a collection of articles and manuscripts written by Ruth Falkenburg Kirk, mostly regarding Zuni fetishes, from 1939-1950.
Articles include "The 'Shalako' of the Zunis," August 18, 1939 and "Introduction to Zuni Fetishes," August 13, 1942, both articles being from The Gallup Gazette and an article from the School for Advanced Research publication El Palacio entitled "Buffalo Hunting Fetish Jar," dated May 1950.
Titles of manuscripts are "About the little Santu at Zuni" (1939), "On the White Man's Warpath" (1940) which is Zuni Teddy Weahkee's account of his time in the United States army during World War I as related to Kirk, "Red Ant Fetishes" (1939), "Zuni Fetishes" a lecture given by Kirk at the Laboratory of Anthropology at Santa Fe, New Mexico on June 12, 1940, and a separate, 45-page manuscript also titled "Zuni Fetishes."
This collection also includes a catalog of Zuni ceremonial jars for sale, which includes photographs and one piece of correspondence from Southwest Museum curator M. R. Harrington to Southwest Museum Director Frederick Webb Hodge, dated October 27, 1942. Some of the manuscripts include black and white photographs.
