Description
This collection contains one correspondence written by Frederick Isely to his brother Henry during the Civil War.
Background
Henry Isely, the recipient of the letter, served in Company C of the 67 Ohio Infantry. He was born in 1852 in Ohio to Swiss parents. The author of the letter, Frederick Isely, was born in 1831 in Ohio. Their last name is also spelled "Eisele." By 1875, both brothers were living with their families in Walnut, Kansas. Henry's widow, Sophia, collected a war pension in 1908. Frederick, married to Pauline Geiger (also spelled "Giger"), died in 1916.
