"Almon Mitchell Orcutt, born in Cummington, Massachusetts on 17 October 1824, attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. The first [139] pages are Orcutt's notes taken during the lectures of Alonzo Clark, Professor of Practice. Orcutt's noted begin on 11 December 1848, with a discussion related to the temperature of man. On December 17th, the lecture has progressed to ingestion; December 20th, absorption; and on 20 March 1849, clark lectures on the history and progress of tuberculosis. The final [67] pages in this volume contain financial records dating from 20 July 1849 to 1 march 1850, followed by a note that reads, 'Transfered to book labeled day Book 1850' at the foot of the final page. The information is organized as follows: Date, Patient name, Service, and Charge. As Orcutt graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1849, we can only assume he began to keep records of his medical practice in the same journal he had been using for his course notes."--Antiquarian bookseller's description, 2014.
