Scope and Content of Collection

The collection consists of correspondence, contracts, reports, and articles primarily concerning the mining and petroleum industries in California in the years preceding and including World War II. There are contracts between several mining and smelting and refining companies which demonstrate the output and prices of various metals, including gold, silver, lead and zinc, and there are also documents concerning the cost of ore shipments. Some of these files include materials related to the productivity and output of the Darwin Silver Mines in Inyo County, California, and the San Manuel Mines in El Pomo, Sonora, Mexico. There are also materials concerning various oil production facilities and companies, including those of the Signal Oil and Gas Company, the Midway Northern Oil Company, and the Kendon Petroleum Company. Individuals who appear in the collection who were involved with some of these companies include Samuel B. Mosher (founder and owner of Signal Oil Company), Henry Workman Keller (owner of the San Manuel Mines in Mexico), and mining engineer Henning E. Olund. Additional items in the collection include correspondence of a personal nature.
