Scope and Content of Collection

Articles of incorporation include records for businesses, organizations and churches incorporated in Los Angeles County. Businesses include oil, investment and construction companies; automobile and motion picture enterprises. Social organizations, to name a few, include Culver City Woman’s Club; Downey Athletic Club; South Gate Social Club; Maywood Methodist Episcopal Church; The Midnight Mission; Buffalo Club of Long Beach, California; and Greek Political Club of America. Records may include dissolutions and name changes. Street addresses are not provided in the records. Incorporators’ names are listed; many, but not all documents have original signatures. This second series, covering the 1920s and 1930s, will fill in the gaps of the first series collection: General Collection 1145 (Los Angeles Incorporation Records (First Series), containing records from 1854 to 1922; 1930 to 1933; and 1935 to 1938. 1903-1939 (bulk is 1922-1939)
