Scope and Content Note

Bill files created by the Senate Health Committee may include bill analyses, amendments and resolutions, author’s statements, testimony, press releases, editorials and newspaper clippings, correspondence, committee statements, and other information.
Notable legislation includes: AB682 (2007-2008), which revised the written and informed consent standards associated with testing blood for HIV/AIDS; SB1029 (2009-2010), which allowed individuals up to 30 syringes or needles for personal use without a prescription from a pharmacy; AB2572 (2007-2008), which required a food facility with twenty or more locations throughout the state to disclose to customers specified nutrition information for standard food items, and their close involvement with Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC), California Nurses Association (CNA), American Heart Association, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; SB648 (2013-2014), Electronic Cigarettes restriction of use and advertising; ABX1_1 (2013-2014), which revised Medi-Cal eligibility; SB128 (2015-2016), End of Life option act; SB277 (2015-2016); Public Health Vaccinations: AB266 (2015-2016) Medical Cannabis.

Scope and Content Note

Hearing files for the committee may contain agendas, audiotapes, transcripts, testimony, background, and working files for regular session hearings as well as interim hearings and select joint committee hearings.

Scope and Content Note

Subject files created by the committee may include correspondence, emails, memoranda, statistical findings, and published and unpublished reports. Of particular note are those files related to Payment of Provider Services Information and Complaints, as well as AB1321 (2005) which prohibits a non-contracting emergency physician working at a hospital that contracts with HMO from billing a patient. This series also contains files related to health care services plans and unfair payment patterns.

Senate Subcommittee on Aging and Long-Term Care 1997-2011

Scope and Content

The subcommittee on Aging and Long-Term Care records consist of Bill Files, 2007-2008, Hearing Files, 1997-2009, and Correspondence, 2010-2011.
The bill files document the bills directed to the committee. The files include committee analysis, letters from interested parties, and the comments of affected agencies. These files show the close involvement of the committee in such issues as healthy eating and access to healthy foods, amongst other health related legislation.
