    Historical Note

The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), an Irish Catholic organization, was first established in New York in 1836. The fraternity established the Division No. 1 in Sacramento County on March 1, 1870, and Division No. 2 shortly thereafter. It was one of several Irish societies in the Sacramento area established around that time and was primarily a mutual benevolent society for Irish immigrants. The Board of Directors of the AOH of Sacramento County governed both Sacramento divisions and held monthly meetings at Fraternity Hall in the Odd Fellows temple at the corner of K and Ninth Streets in 1872.
