Scope and Content

Papers of United States Marine Corps brigadier general and World War I veteran James J. Meade of Long Beach, California, documenting his professional life on the eve of World War II.
The bulk of the material dates to 1937-1939, and consists of letters from various correspondents and agencies to Meade on a variety of subjects and issues, including job inquiries, his presidency of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Club, Marine recruitment, the state of the Corps and various figures within it, and California politics.
The collection also includes assorted personal and biographical items and ephemera. An inventory to the collection is included among the materials.
