    Abstract: Consists of the professional records of John M. Hague, geologist for the New Jersey Zinc Company, primarily focused on mining operations in Wisconsin. Included in the collection are mining reports, notes and manuscripts prepared by Hague, professional correspondence, writings, and a small amount of personalia.

    Acquisition Information

    The John M. Hague mining reports were in the possession of the California Mining Research Institute until 1994, when, upon the Institute's dissolution, the collection was gifted to the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley. Additional materials were given to the Bancroft Library by the Wisconsin Historical Society in 2014.

    Biographical Information

    John M. Hague was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey on April 18, 1913. He graduated from Yale University in 1934 as a civil engineer and entered Stanford University in 1935 as a candidate for the Engineer of Mines degree which he obtained in 1939. After begining his professional career in California he moved onto New Mexico. After serving in World War II he was discharged to Peekskill, New York and soon began working for the New Jersey Zinc Company. In 1952 he was sent to Wisconsin on behalf of the company. Hague died in 1991.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Consists of the professional records of John M. Hague, geologist for the New Jersey Zinc Company, primarily focused on mining operations in Wisconsin. Included in the collection are mining reports, notes and manuscripts prepared by Hague, professional correspondence, writings, and a small amount of personalia. Most of the reports document mines in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa and date between 1950 and 1976.
