Abstract: Arvid Fritiof Carlson (b. May 30, 1912 – d. June 22, 2006) joined Fuller Theological Seminary as Lecturer in Evangelism and
Christian Life from 1950-1951. Lectures provided by Carlson and other colleagues supplemented the academic rigor at Fuller
Seminary by emphasizing application of Christian faith in daily living. The Papers of Arvid F Carlson, 1939-2006 contains
the autobiography, photographic reprints, and select sermons notes written by Carlson. The collection primarily includes typewritten
sermon notes with annotations.

Biography/Administrative History
Arvid Fritiof Carlson (b. May 30, 1912 – d. June 22, 2006) joined Fuller Theological Seminary as Lecturer in Evangelism and
Christian Life from 1950-1951. Carlson’s first church assignment was with the Evangelical Mission Covenant in Eagle Rock,
CA in 1936. Carlson attended BIOLA College, and graduated in 1939. He prepared for ordination at North Park College, Chicago,
IL in 1943. Allergies prompted his return to California. From 1945 to 1963, Carlson became a traveling Covenant preacher and
the youngest pastor of Pasadena Covenant Church in Pasadena, CA. His final church assignment was with the Evangelical Free
Church in Felton, CA beginning in 1971. Arvid Carlson was also one of the first television preachers. He regularily provided
a 3 minute sermon on The Campus Christian Hour, produced by Ralph Charmichael in Southern California. The “3 point sermon”
defined his preaching style.
Scope and Content of Collection
The Papers of Arvid F Carlson, 1939-2006 contains the autobiography, photographic reprints, and select sermons notes written
by Carlson. The collection primarily includes typewritten sermon notes with annotations. Each sermon has notes indicating
the various dates and locations where the sermon was delivered. Subjects include the Book of Hebrews, the Crisis of the Crucifixion,
the Face of Christ, Prophecy, and Baptism.
