Immediate Source of Acquisition
Most of the materials in the collection were gathered from University Archives files. In 2021, MediaVision transferred a substantial
amount of audiovisual materials that were added to this collection.
Biographical / Historical
The College of Business Administration (CBA) is one of nine colleges at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. It
originally started in 1958 as a department in the Division of Arts and Sciences.
In 1968, the School of Business Administration was established and Louis Kaufman was named as the first dean. The school
began with three departments: Accounting, Business Management, and Marketing. Two more were added by 1970: Data Processing
and Finance Insurance and Real Estate.
In 1974, the School of Business Administration was named as one of the two west coast locations of the University Business
Development Centers, which helped establish cooperation between the Small Business Administration and small businesses.
In 1987, Cal Poly Pomona received authorization to change the name of its schools to colleges and the School of Business
Administration became the College of Businses Administration for the 1988-1989 academic year. As of March 2019, the college
has seven undergraduate programs: Accounting; Computer Information Systems; E-Business, Finance, Real Estate and Law; International
Business and Marketing; Management and Human Resources; and Technology and Operations Management.
Scope and Contents
The collection contains brochures, flyers, promotional materials, annual reports, news clippings, photographic prints and
negatives, and audiovisual materials related to the College of Business Administration (CBA) at California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona and, its prior name, the School of Business Administration. The collection contains a program for a seminar
that was held at Cal Poly Pomona in 1976 that was called "Education, Productivity, and Employment" and was held to commemorate
the inauguration of the University Business Development Center at Cal Poly Pomona. The collection also contains audiovisual
footage of the groundbreaking of the CBA building in 2010, speaker presentations at the CBA Leadership Forum on innovations
in corporate leadership, and speaker presentations on topics related to US-Mexico trade at the International Business Conference
in the 1990s.
