Description
This folder contains two copies of a letter from John M. Bailhache regarding a his donation of a copy of a letter by Elliot to Mason Brayman on 03/10/1850, as well as a typed transcript of said letter. The letter describes Elliot’s overland journey to San Francisco that same year and the lifestyle and habits of the people of San Francisco.
Background
Elliot was a member of the Mormon Church and attended Zion’s Camp. In 1843 he sailed with Brigham Young from Pittsburgh to St. Louis. On September 17, 1850 he and several associates applied for Special Administration of the Estate of Hiriam Gates.
