Biography/Administrative History
William Kennedy Laurie Dickson (1860 - 1935) was the English inventor of the kinetoscope (1889) during his employment with
Thomas Edison in New Jersey, incorporating the use of 35 mm celluloid perforated film. This enabled the Edison Company to
provide moving images for entertainment purposes. In 1895, Dickson, along with several other individuals, formed the American
Mutoscope and Biograph Company, which became successful in delivering to audiences the first moving pictures projected in
theaters.
