Scope and Content of Collection
Indexes to maps (1853-1982) consist of 15 bound and disbound volumes and are a guide for researchers in locating specific
maps within the archives. These indexes facilitate access to a diverse range of both filed and unfiled maps, including subdivision
maps, miscellaneous maps, record of survey maps, and more. The collection spans multiple volumes and includes detailed information
such as map names, descriptions, filing dates, map numbers, file numbers, and other pertinent details for each entry. Please
note that these indexes do not include all maps or map types held in the Archives. Indexes are listed in chronological order,
however, there is no single arrangement across the entire collection. Index to Maps and Index to Maps, Subdivisions (1853-1982)
are arranged alphabetically by map title or subdivision name.
For Index to Licensed Surveyors (1891-1981), the arrangement varies based on the key index term in each volume, including
surveyor's last name, property owner's last name, subdivision name, and geographical description by Township, Range, and Section
number (the Public Land Survey System designation).
Similarly, Index to Record of Survey Maps, Surveyors (1957-1980), arrangement also varies across volumes and includes alphabetical
arrangements by map name, map number prefixes, surveyor's last name, and landowner's last name.
