    Abstract: Cliff Fridkis served as the attorney for Bustop, Inc., a group originally formed by San Fernando Valley parents to stop forced busing in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Bustop, Inc. was an intervener in the Crawford vs. Board of Education school desegregation case in Los Angeles in the late 1970s. The collection chronicles Bustop, Inc.'s involvement in the Crawford vs. Board of Education case, and includes documents and research files that are part of Fridkis' legal case files. Clerk transcripts, court decisions, motions and orders, pleadings before the court, witness depositions and related research files comprise the bulk of the material.

    Scope and Contents

    The Cliff Fridkis Legal Files of the Bustop Campaign Collection chronicles Bustop Inc.'s involvement in the Crawford vs. Board of Education case. The collection includes documents and research files that are part of Fridkis' legal case files. Clerk transcripts, court decisions, motions and orders, pleadings before the court, witness depositions and related research files comprise the bulk of the material. The collection is organized in four series: Records of the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles (Case No. C 882 854) (1936, 1968-1984), Records of the California Court of Appeals (1969-1988), Records of the California Supreme Court (1978-1988), and Records of the United States Supreme Court (1978-1982).
    Series I, Records of the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles (Case No. C 882 854), contains briefs, correspondence, declarations, depositions, exhibits, orders of the court, petitions, transcripts, supporting opinions, testimony, and related legal documents that were filed in the Superior Court by plaintiffs, defendant Board of Education, and several interveners including Bustop Inc. The series is further divided into the following seven subseries: Reporter's Daily Transcripts (1978-1981), arranged chronologically, Pleadings (1977-1982), arranged by volume, document number, and chronologically, Exhibits (1977-1981), arranged by exhibit number, Witness Depositions and Reports (1969-1981), arranged alphabetically, Cedar Files - Pleadings (1977-1979), arranged chronologically, Reference and Research Papers (1936, 1968-1984), arranged alphabetically by title and type, and Attorney's Fees - Cedar Files (1977-1982), arranged by file number.
    Series II, Records of the California Court of Appeals, continues to document the case through the California Court of Appeals. The series is further divided into the following five subseries: Clerk's Transcripts (1979 April 18), arranged chronologically, Appeals by Case Number (1976-1981), arranged by case number then document number or chronologically, Exhibits for Petition of Writ (1976-1981), filed by exhibit number, Attorney's Fees (1982-1988), arranged by document number, and Research Files Regarding Attorney's Fees (1969-1988), arranged alphabetically by title.
    Series III, Records of the California Supreme Court, documents the case through the California Supreme Court. The series is further divided into the following four subseries: Records by Case Number (1978-1981), arranged by case number, then document number, Documents Transferred from the Superior Court (1979), arranged chronologically, Documents Transferred from the Court of Appeals (1980, 1985), arranged chronologically, and Records Regarding Attorney Fees (1988).
    Series IV, Records of the United States Supreme Court, documents the case through the United States Supreme Court. Case documents are arranged by case number and chronologically within.
