Scope and Content
Contains 49 photographic prints, including tintypes, cartes de visite photographs, and
cabinet cards, taken of the del Valle family and associates between 1880 and 1915. Includes
photographs of Reginaldo del Valle with his wife, Helen, and daughter, Lucretia and images
of Reginaldo del Valle with business associates and at his desk in the offices of Del Valle,
Finlayson and Metclaf. Includes three group portraits of the del Valle family and associates
taken on the del Valle family ranch, Rancho Camulos, located in Ventura County, California.
Also contains portraits of Igancio del Valle; Ysabel del Valle; Josefa del Valle Forster;
Ysabel del Valle Cram; Ignacio del Valle, Jr.; and Ulpiano F. del Valle.
Biographical / Historical
Reginaldo del Valle was a prominent Mexican American politician and civil servant. He
served in the Calif. State Assembly (1879-1880) and Senate (1882-1886). He was a member of
the Board of Water and Power Commissioners for the City of Los Angeles (1908-1929) and was
instrumental in the construction of the Owens River aqueduct. Del Valle was the son of
Ygnacio Ramon de Jesus del Valle, an early California rancher and
alcalde of Los Angeles. He died on September 20, 1938.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Provenance unknown. Some photographs appear to have been donated by Mrs. Henry F. Grady in
April, 1953; other photographs were donated by the Ethel Shurb Estate, 1959.
