Biographical / Historical

Frank E. Bullock (1919-2011) was a long-term employee of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation where he worked on several projects including: P-80 jet aircraft, design of the Constellation, the Jetstar, and P-3 Orion. Beginning in 1956, he worked with Clarence "Kelly" Johnson in the Skunk Works on projects including the hydrogen powered aircraft program that was eventually abandoned, the SR-71, and the U2-R control systems. Bullock also taught at the Northrop Aeronautical Institute. He retired from Lockheed in 1980, after almost thirty years of service. He married Roberta Lois McComb in 1945; they had two children. Bullock died of natural causes in Glendale, California in 2011 at the age of 91.

Scope and Contents

The collection documents the aeronautics career and interests of Frank E. Bullock from the 1920s into the 21st century. The collection consists of fourteen series and contains annual reports, brochures and catalogs, charts and graphs, clippings, course materials, a directory, advertisements, a map, handbooks and manuals, lithographs, photographs and negatives, posters, magazines, newsletters, and reports. The collection is arranged alphabetically by the format of the material. The collection consists of published documents, and as such, does not document the detailed activities of Bullock, Northrop, or Lockheed.

Brook Engebretson processed the collection in November 2014. In 2020, Brooke M. Black created a finding aid.
