Processing Information
The collection was processed by Vita Isyanova and Marie Silva in 2020-2021. Materials were removed from binders, placed in
acid-free boxes, and arranged in alphabetical order. This assembled collection has no original order.
Scope and Contents
The bulk of this assembled collection consists of official individual and group portraits of the justices of the California
Supreme Court, dated circa 1860-2020. Most photographs are twentieth-century photographic prints. All nineteenth-century prints,
with the exception of the Solomon Heydenfeldt cabinet card, are reproductions of framed portraits of the justices, likely
made from negatives in 2004. Official photographers include Gabriel Moulin Studios, San Francisco, and Sirlin Studios, Sacramento.
Conditions Governing Use
Because of the assembled nature of this collection, copyright status varies across the collection. Copyright is assumed to
be held by the original creator of individual items in the collection. The California Judicial Center Library is not authorized
to grant permission to publish or reproduce materials from this collection.
