Description
The Reverend George “Wally” Stearns was an activist for peace in the Middle East. This is a collection of articles, letters and petitions related to various aspects of the conflicts in the Middle East from 1976 to 2005.
Background
George Wally Stearns (1934-2009), the son of Roswel and Rose Stearns, grew up at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Los Angeles, and was ordained there on January 22, 1956. He was a graduate of Occidental College and San Francisco Theological Seminary. After his ordination he served as Director of Migrant Ministry in Kings County in the San Joaquin Valley of California, under the National Council of Churches, and then in Bell Gardens Community Center in Southern California. He pastored churches in Ukiah, La Canada and Pasadena. He also served as a teacher and Chaplain at Schutz School in Alexandria, Egypt while he pastored the Community Church there. In the mid seventies he became an activist for Middle East peace and reconciliation.
