Abstract: The collection consists of multiple musical works composed by Catalan composer and conductor Celestí Sadurní in the late 19th
and early 20th century. The works, which were mostly unpublished, are handwritten either by Sadurní or a copyist and most
are autographed and dated. Compositions in the collection include zarzuela operas, a ballet, a piano score, a religious march,
and a number of short instrumental works.

Biographical Note
Celestí Sadurní i Gurguí (1863-1910) was a Catalan composer and conductor who studied at the Conservatori del Liceu, and worked
as a professor for various music schools in Barcelona, Spain during the 1880s. In 1886 he established the Municipal Orchestra
and Municipal Music School of Barcelona with fellow composer Josep Rodoreda. In 1887 he became the assistant conductor of
the Municipal Orchestra, and its director in 1897. In addition to the orchestra, Sadurní conducted a number of choral groups,
operas, and other groups in Spain and France. Sadurní also composed a number of works, both religious and secular, although
most of his works were unpublished.
Collection Scope and Contents
The collection consists of multiple musical works composed by Catalan composer and conductor Celestí Sadurní in the late 19th
and early 20th century. The works, which were mostly unpublished, are handwritten either by Sadurní or a copyist and most
are autographed and dated. Compositions in the collection include a ballet, a piano score, a religious march, and a number
of short instrumental works. Also included are multiple zarzuelas, which are lyric-dramatic works popular in Spain that alternate
between spoken and sung scenes.
