Series Scope and Content Summary

This series contains correspondence, annual reports, programs, topographical surveys, and other material pertaining to administrative matters of the Citrus Experiment Station (CES). Materials primarily relate to facilities, budgets, staff, the library, and early developments of the CES prior to the establishment of the UC Riverside College of Letters and Science in 1954. Records documenting research in the Subtropical Horticulture Division of the College of Agriculture, the Southern California Pathological Laboratory, and the Graduate School of Tropical Agriculture are also included.

Sub-series Scope and Content Summary

This sub-series contains correspondence, reports, and other material pertaining to the budget of the Citrus Experiment Station (CES). Topics include approved and recommended annual budgets, salaries, payroll, supplies, maintenance and construction of CES buildings, and prospective research projects. Select faculty papers and correspondence regarding budgets and financial matters are also included.

Sub-series Scope and Content Summary

This sub-series contains bulletins, newsletters, memorandums, policies, tables, graphs, and card indexes pertaining to Citrus Experiment Station (CES) publications and the editorial office. Topics include citrus research and culture in California and pest control. Card indexes document the Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station (CRC-AES) published papers. Issues of California Agriculture include articles by CES faculty. Histograms, graphs, scatter plots, and other sections within circulars and bulletins from the University of California Agricultural Experiment Station as well as issues of Hilgardia, do not have specific titles. Publications of the University of California College Of Agriculture, the California Alumni Association, and the California Agricultural Experiment Station are also included.

Sub-series Scope and Content Summary

This sub-series contains black-and-white photographs of Citrus Experiment Station (CES) buildings, faculty, staff, equipment, orchards, and crops. Images primarily show exterior, interior, and aerial views of the CES main building, entomology laboratory, barns, and other CES facilities, including the original CES laboratory at Mt. Rubidoux. Images originally housed in Kodak nitrate negative albums created or collected by E.R. Parker depict avocado, walnut, and citrus crops with injuries, deficiencies, and diseases. Images created or collected by E.E. Thomas show barley, cowpea, and alfalfa fields and other crops. Other images depict experiments conducted in CES orchards and fields and Riverside landmarks, including the parent Washington navel orange tree. Staff and faculty portraits are also included. A CD-ROM containing digital images originally taken by James Theophilus Barrett depict the CES garden, the house of Louis Rubidoux, and other Riverside landmarks.

Sub-series Scope and Content Summary

This sub-series contains nitrate negatives of Citrus Experiment Station (CES) staff, faculty, and students, aerial and exterior views of CES buildings, and CES land and orchards. Images created or collected by E.E. Thomas show alfalfa, cotton, oat, and other crops. Loose materials and negatives in the Kodak nitrate negative albums that were created or collected by E.R. Parker depict avocado, walnut, and citrus crops, some of which show injuries, deficiencies, and diseases. Kodak nitrate negative albums with images of trips to Italy and France are also included. Negatives created by C.S. Pomeroy and A.D. Shamel show marsh grapefruit, Washington navel orange, date palm, and Valencia orange trees. Filmstrips depict images of land and trees in Santa Barbara, avocado seed mutations, and Capistrano weather records. [Boxes 44-47]

Series 9. Citrus Experiment Station anniversary celebrations. 1933-2007.

Series Scope and Content Summary

This series contains correspondence, memorabilia, programs, clippings, and other material regarding the 20th, 50th, 75th, and 100th anniversaries of the Citrus Experiment Station (CES). Materials regarding the Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station (CRC-AES) anniversaries reflect the official name change instituted in 1961. Topics include the history of CES, past and future research projects, achievements, and celebration events. Materials regarding the 100th anniversary of the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) are also included.

Series Scope and Content Summary

This series contains oversized photographs, floor and site plans, blueprints, and topographical maps and surveys pertaining to Citrus Experiment Station (CES) buildings, facilities, and land. Materials primarily relate to prospective CES laboratory sites and proposals for the construction and improvement of CES buildings. Oversized photographs depict CES buildings, aerial views of CES land, watercolor illustrations regarding citrus and subtropical fruit, and a tractor management class.
