Abstract: Jack Lilburn diary of events following the wreck of the Strathcona on Minerva Reef (SAFR 14036, HDC 120) is dated Thursday,
June 10 to Sunday July 8. The STRATHCONA (built 1914; schooner) was on its maiden voyage from Auckland to Suva. It details
the shipwreck of the schooner STRATHCONA on Minerva reef. He mentions the survival of the crew in the lagoon and ashore, how
they passed their time fishing, smoking and playing cards, and their rescue by the IRIS 35 days after the wreck. There is
also a complete photocopy of the diary. This collection is available for research use without restriction.

Historical or Biographical Note
Jack Lilburn the author of the diary, was bosun and carpenter on board the STRATHCONA when it was wrecked on South Minerva
Reef. A resident of New Zealand, he lived in Ponsonby at the time.
