Description
The Slash collection comprises a complete run (30 issues) of the seminal Los Angeles fanzine dedicated to punk music and subcultures, spanning 1977 to 1981. Founded by Steve Samiof and Melanie Nissen, Slash focused on the burgeoning West Coast punk scene, including bands such as X, The Germs, and The Screamers as well as the emerging New Wave and No Wave movements and new genres of reggae and rockabilly revival.The set contains 28 issues, starting at Volume 1, no. 1, published in May of 1977, and concludes with Volume 3, no. 5, published in the Summer of 1980. In addition, this complete set includes an unnumbered "One Year Anniversary Issue" and a special "Slash Supplement" published by the New York Rocker in September, 1981.
Background
Founded by Steve Samiof and Melanie Nissen, Slash focused on the burgeoning West Coast punk scene, including bands such as X, The Germs, and The Screamers as well as the emerging New Wave and No Wave movements and new genres of reggae and rockabilly revival. Each issue features bold, striking artwork, most notably by Gary Panter, Diane Gamboa, David Arnott, and Scott Lindgren. Authors of Slash's written pieces include Claude "Kick Face" Bessy, Richard Meltzer, Craig Lee, and Jeffrey Lee.
