    Biographical / Historical

In the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire the California Wine Association moved its headquarters to Point Molate on the east shore of the San Pablo Bay in Richmond, California, naming the facilities Winehaven. Between 1907 and 1919, Winehaven held the title of the world's largest winery, shipping 500,000 gallons of wine to both foreign and national locations. Upon the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment (Prohibition) the winery shut down and sold off its assets to avoid bankruptcy.
