Abstract: Collection consists of 1,740 35mm color slides and 28 black and white photographic prints documenting Leslie Sheraton’s trips
to California from 1948 to 1973. The trips include destinations of San Francisco, Disneyland, Los Angeles, Marineland, Swiss
Colony, San Juan Capistrano, Palo Alto, San Onofre, Universal City, San Diego, Death Valley, Hearst Castle, San Simeon, Sacramento
and Carmel.

Biography/Administrative History
Leslie Frederick Sheraton was born November 16, 1906 in Hull, England. His family immigrated to Canada in about 1910 eventually
settling in the area of Calgary, Alberta. Sheraton was in active service in the Royal Canadian Navy from July 1942 to November
1945. He married Eileen Margaret Wood of Edmonton, Alberta on April 15, 1944 in Vancouver, British Columbia. They moved to
Vancouver shortly after and had one son, Donald Frederick Sheraton on August 29, 1946. Sheraton’s professional life was in
sales and he was co-owner of a photographic supply shop in Vancouver. He was an avid and accomplished photographer. The family
enjoyed travels to California, Nevada and Hawaii. Leslie Frederick Sheraton died on July 6, 1978 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Scope and Content of Collection
Collection consists of 1,740 35mm color slides and 28 black and white photographic prints documenting Leslie Sheraton’s trips
to California from 1948 to 1973. The trips include destinations of San Francisco, Disneyland, Los Angeles, Marineland, Swiss
Colony, San Juan Capistrano, Palo Alto, San Onofre, Universal City, San Diego, Death Valley, Hearst Castle, San Simeon, Sacramento
and Carmel. The shots include significant landmarks, tourist destinations, and motels/hotels. A portion of the San Francisco
slides include interior and exteriors of restaurants and nightclubs during the late 1950s to the early 1960s.
