Description
Includes notes and correspondence about railway mail service of the Sierra Railroad, written by Archie C. Decker to Robert J. Hannah of the California-Nevada Railroad Historical Society. Also includes biographical information about Hannah's father, Arthur T. Hannah (1886-1936), who was a Railway Post Office Clerk of the Sierra Railroad between Tuolumne and Oakdale, California. Includes information about many other railway postal clerks who worked for the Sierra Railroad.
Background
Archie Decker was a retired postal clerk with the Railway Mail Service. He worked from 1912 to 1930 as a railway relief clerk for the Sierra Railroad line between Tuolumne and Oakdale, California. He also worked between El Portal and Merced. Decker was appointed official historian of the 8th Convention of the National Postal Transport Association in 1953 and compiled a history of the Railway Postal Clerks.
