    Content Description

    This collection contains eight letters from Private Oren Clay Ragland, American Expeditionary Force (2/1892 - 5/7/1930) to his half-sister Clola Horner, and one from "Mina" to Clola, during the First World War. Also included is one copy of two photographs of Pvt. Ragland as well as an Ancestry.com printout.
    Pvt. Ragland's correspondence to his sister discusses his time at Camp Lee in Petersburg, Virginia and Camp Humphrey in Belvoir, VA before deploying oversees with Company B 51st Engineers to Tours, France. He describes the landscape and the French towns, and women, and patiently awaiting returning home while working on French railroads, the same work he did in St. Louis, Illinois as a civilian. His unit changed its name to the 51st Regiment Transportation Corps and moved to Is-sur-Tille in February 1919.
