Richard Brooks was an American director, producer, and screenwriter most active in film from 1942 to
1985. He received an Academy Award for writing the screenplay for ELMER GANTRY (1960). Brooks was
nominated for writing the screenplay for BLACKBOARD JUNGLE (1955) and for writing and directing CAT ON A
HOT TIN ROOF (1958), THE PROFESSIONALS (1966), and IN COLD BLOOD (1967).
