    Biographical / Historical

    Private Joseph Balk, United States Army (b. 5/1921) was born in St. Louis, Missouri where he lived in the St. Louis area all his life and attended St. Louis Public School, Ranked Tech. College and Washington University.
    He was a member of the Signal Corps attached to General Patton's 3rd Army. He landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, and was in the Battle of the Bulge.

    Scope and Contents

    This collection contains one correspondence and one blank postcard from Pvt. Joseph Balk, USA to Ruth Greene during the Second World War. In the letter, he replies to letters sent to him and acknowledges receiving care packages. Balk married Greene a few months after this letter was written.
