    Biography/History

    House Peters, Jr. was born in 1916 in New Rochelle, NY to silent film actor House Peters and actress Mae King Peters. He grew up in Beverly Hills, California, studying drama at Beverly Hills High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. Peters was known for his supporting work as an actor in both film and television, appearing alongside Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. He appeared in the films The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Dakota Kid, and Rebel Without a Cause as well as in the television series Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, and Lassie. He was best known for being the first actor to play Mr. Clean in a series of television commercials that ran throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s. After his retirement in the late 1960s, he published an autobiography titled Another Side of Hollywood: An Autobiography. Peters died October 1, 2008, in Woodland Hills, CA.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of two scrapbooks and an autobiography related to the career of actor House Peters, Jr. and his actor-father, House Peters. Each scrapbook contains a small number of images, (mostly photocopies of photographs) and photocopies of clippings. The autobiography is titled, Another Side of Hollywood: An Autobiography by Actor House Peters, Jr.
