Fred Bradford
Fred Bradford is a member of the Manzanar Committee, an organization that began in 1970 after the first pilgrimage to Manzanar
took place in December 1969. The Manzanar Committee worked to establish Manzanar as a California State Historical Landmark
and to educate others about the history of Japanese American incarceration. Fred Bradford went to his first Manzanar Pilgrimage
in 1982 and has participated in most of the pilgrimages ever since. He served as Treasurer for the committee in 2009 and now
serves as a committee member.
Scope and Contents
The Fred Bradford Manzanar Collection (1977-2014) contains 0.42 linear feet of booklets, agendas, meeting minutes, maps, travel
guides, flyers, programs, and digital material related to the Manzanar incarceration camp and the Manzanar Committee. The
collection mostly contains material about the Manzanar Committee, an organization that formed in 1970 to educate others about
the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. The content related to the committee includes meeting minutes,
agendas, flyers, and booklets about the organization and the yearly pilgrimages organized by the committee. The collection
also includes travel guides and maps about the area surrounding the Manzanar incarceration camp and other materials about
Manzanar, other incarceration camps, and Japanese Americans.
