Jesse Alexander was born in Santa Barbara in the 1930s. He became involved in photography in the 1950s when he began photographing
automobile races. Alexander is well known for his racing and nature photographs. He was a trustee of the Santa Barbara Museum
of Art and co-author of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art Catalog for the “Paul Tuttle designer” exhibition in 1978.
The Jesse Alexander papers span 1 linear foot and date from circa 1970 to circa 1990. The collection is composed of Jesse
Alexander’s photographs of Paul Tuttle and his furniture designs organized by project. The collection also contains portfolios
of Tuttle’s designs for the decades 1970 and 1980, as well as a folder of material relating to the catalog for the Paul Tuttle
exhibit at the University of California Santa Barbara Art Museum in 1986-87.
