Biography

David I. Zeitlin was an American journalist who served as the motion picture correspondent for "Life" magazine for around a dozen years beginning in 1955. He created and then edited the Directors Guild publication "Action" from 1966 to 1968. In the late 1960s he was a staff producer at Universal and elsewhere. The book "Shooting Stars," published posthumously, was conceived and compiled by Zeitlin from material he wrote and photographs he collected.

Collection Scope and Content Summary

The David I. Zeitlin papers span the years 1955-1968 (bulk 1962-1966) and encompass 4.4 linear feet. The collection consists primarily of telexes of stories written by Zeitlin for "Life" magazine, as well as communications between Zeitlin and his editors. There are also 25 audio tapes of interviews, primarily conducted by Zeitlin.
