Abstract: This collection contains articles, biographical essays, slides, notes and other materials from Homer Aschmann's tenure as
professor in the Geography department at the University of California, Riverside. The bulk of the collection consists of reprints
of articles by various experts in the field of geography. Many of the reprints include the author's signature as well as a
personal message written to Aschmann.

Biographical Information
Harold Homer Aschmann was a professor in the department of Geography at the University of California, Riverside. He was one
of the founding faculty members at UCR, beginning his career the year the school opened in 1954. He spent the entirety of
his academic tenure here, before retiring in 1988.
Aschmann was born on May 5, 1920 in San Francisco. He spent the majority of his childhood in Los Angeles. He received an A.B.
and M.A. in geography from UCLA, in 1940 and 1942, respectively. He earned a Ph.D. in geography from UC Berkeley in 1954.
He wrote more than sixtyy articles and monographs throughout his career. His research was primarily focused on how human cultures
interact with the natural environment, particularly in Latin America, southern California and Chile.
Aschmann passed away on September 25, 1992.
Collection Scope and Contents
This collection contains articles, biographical essays, slides, notes and other materials from Homer Aschmann's tenure as
professor in the Geography department at the University of California, Riverside. The bulk of the collection consists of reprints
of articles by various experts in the field of geography. Many of the reprints include the author's signature as well as a
personal message written to Aschmann.
