Description
The Dwight Cleveland collection of posters spans the years 1914-1953 (bulk 1935-1943) and contains
more than 1,000 mostly one-sheet posters for films primarily produced in the United States. The
collection documents B movies of the studio era and includes examples from Warner Bros., Fox, MGM,
Paramount, and RKO. Genres represented document musicals, biblical tales, Westerns, war films, and films
dealing with social problems.
Background
Dwight Cleveland is a real-estate developer in Chicago, Illinois. He began collecting posters in 1977
while in high school, inspired by film posters in an art teacher's classroom. After moving to Los
Angeles, Cleveland continued to acquire posters from memorabilia dealers in Hollywood.
Restrictions
Property rights to the physical object belong to the Margaret Herrick Library. Researchers are
responsible for obtaining all necessary rights, licenses, or permissions from the appropriate companies
or individuals before quoting from or publishing materials obtained from the library.
